In chapter 9, Daniel prays for God's mercy upon Israel and Jerusalem. But his prayer was preceded by, and informed by, his personal study of the Scriptures. Because of Daniel's study of the book of Jeremiah, he understood that the time of the end of Jerusalem's desolation was drawing near. Daniel's example shows the importance of personal Bible study and prayer.
