Turn

40

Peter's second sermon recorded in the book of Acts takes place in the vicinity of the temple. Peter again begins by pointing out the guilt and sin of his audience and, having their attention, calls them to repent and turn back in order that their sin might be wiped out.

He acknowledges that there sin is explained by ignorance, but that explaining sin doesn't excuse it. God is making a far richer offer in any case. Rather than offering to 'understand' sin or 'excuse' sin, he is offering to 'forgive' those who will repent.

The grace of God contains more than provision for salvation through Christ, however. We see in the final verse of this chapter that Jesus has come, not only to make salvation available for all who will repent, but to actually 'turn' people away from their sin. So the very action Peter calls upon his hearers to take - to TURN towards God, is an action that Jesus enables and empowers as he TURNS us from sin.
