Isaiah's Encounter With God

42

In chapter six we commence a new section in the book of Isaiah. Also, in chapter six, we are introduced to the prophet Isaiah and the vision which culminated in his call to the prophetic office in Judah. Now, I am going to preach two sermons from this familiar chapter. Although they will each stand on their own, they will also form a unit of spiritual thought as we consider Isaiah's remarkable experience. In this sermon I will develop the entire chapter and what Isaiah reveals about his “close encounter” with God. In the second sermon I will develop what Isaiah reveals about his experience as it relates to his and our spiritual lives. I begin with a look at the historical setting, for with the death of King Uzziah we come to a turning point in the history of Israel and Judah. Then, after considering the setting and content of the vision, I will develop its outcome. This is the major emphasis of the passage, for the vision is what brought about Isaiah's incredible ministry. He was able to say what he said to these wayward people because of his encounter with Almighty God and His holiness. May God be pleased to bless both of these sermons.
