CHRIST OUR SANCTIFICATION, PART 3:
THE ESSENCE OF SANCTIFICATION
TEXT: Romans 6:1-14

SUMMARY: That sanctification is essentially a work of God and NOT of man, is seen in that sanctification is a part of the Covenant of Grace, and as such pronounces a divine fulfillment of God’s commands to be sanctified.

I. SANCTIFICATION IS PROMISED AS THE WILL OF GOD FOR HIS PEOPLE.
A. A Part of the Covenant of Grace.
B. At the very Heart of God’s Purpose for Israel.

II. SANCTIFICATION IS ASSURED BY THE WORK OF GOD AMONG HIS PEOPLE.
A. The Role of the Father: Election to Salvation & Good Works.
B. The Role of the Son: Redemption from Sin and Lawlessness.
C. The Role of the Holy Spirit: the Agent through Whom Sanctification is Accomplished.

III. SANCTIFICATION IS PRONOUNCED AS FULFILLED BY THE WORD OF GOD TO HIS PEOPLE.
A. The Old Covenant Prophesied its Own Demise.
B. The New Covenant Promise Becomes Reality.
