There are basically seven words that are used to express the meaning of forgiveness. Three of them are Hebrew words and the other four are Greek words. This message discusses the four Greek words. Three of these words identify with two of the Hebrew words in that they carry the idea of sending away, to release from bondage, or to set free. The fourth word is that of showing favor to someone or to pardon. The Hebrew and Greek words for repentance (the twin sister of forgiveness) have the idea of strong emotions of sorrow so that one changes his mind and actions to go in a different direction. Where there is biblical forgiveness there will be biblical repentance.
