A Parents Greatest Joy

Parents know many joys. Her first steps; his first words; her graduation; his job promotion – joyful milestones in parenting are myriad. Yet one joy by far exceeds them all.“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” (3 John 4 – NKJV) What the Apostle John says about his spiritual children is also the heart-cry of any Christian parent: Those who know and follow Jesus long to hear that their children do likewise. This longing informs parents’ prayers, the example they set, and the priorities they allow to govern the families’ time and energy. On Sunday, we’ll celebrate as dads and moms commit their parenting to the Lord. And we’ll consider God’s charge to us as a church family that desires to see its youngest generations grow in Christ.
