Christmass Condemned By Christ 2/3 Puritan & Reformation Teaching On Roman Catholic (Antichrist)/Pagan Holy Days (Easter Too)

Demonstrates why it dishonors God to celebrate Christ-mass. Shows that Scripture never commands keeping this "holy" day and that there is no evidence that Christ & the Apostles ever observed this day -- in fact, this syncretism of paganism and "Babylonian" Christianity was not first celebrated until 354 A.D. (when Dec. 25 was chosen, in accord with the Pagan feast of Saturnalia, as the day of "celebration"). More information on this topic, including a link to the FREE BOOK Christmas: A Biblical Critique, is at the link below (search for Christmas). C.H. Spurgeon, in the Treasury of David, on Psalm 81:4, wrote, "When it can be proved that the observance of Christmas, Whitsuntide, and other Popish festivals was ever instituted by a divine statute, we also will attend to them, but not till then. It is as much our duty to reject the traditions of men, as to observe the ordinances of the Lord. We ask concerning every rite and rubric, 'Is this a law of the God of Jacob?'"

ORIGIN OF THE WORD

The word for Christmas in late Old English is Cristes Maesse, the Mass of Christ, first found in 1038, and Cristes-messe, in 1131. In Dutch it is Kerst-misse, in Latin Dies Natalis, whence comes the French Noël, and Italian Il natale; in German Weihnachtsfest, from the preceeding sacred vigil. The term Yule is of disputed origin. It is unconnected with any word meaning "wheel". The name in Anglo-Saxon was geol, feast: geola, the name of a month (cf. Icelandic iol a feast in December).
