This sermon identifies the plot of Anathoth against Jeremiah’s life. Jeremiah is a type of the prophets before him and ministers of the gospel after him as well as a type for Jesus Christ. As a prophet, Jeremiah was the visible representation of the Church. Other passages that show plots to kill and persecution of prophets/ministers of the gospel are: Mat 5:12; Mat 23:1, Acts 9:23ff, Acts 17:10, Acts 23:13, Isaiah 53:7-; Acts 2: 23; John 15:20. The plea of Jeremiah seen in Jer 11:20 is pleasing to God. God answers the plea and judges those who are enemies of the covenant. The mercy of Jesus Christ is seen in His plea on the Cross at Calgary: Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.
