The Call of Abraham

11

We are introduced to Abraham,or Abram as he was then called in Genesis 12. Abram dwelled in Ur of the Chaldees, he ruins of which are found in Iraq. God commanded him to do four things. To get out of his country, from his kindred, from his fathers house and go into a land that God would show to him. Hebrews 11:7 tells us that, having heard the command of God he, by faith, went out not knowing whither he went. However, he disobeyed one of the commands given, namely, that he was to leave his kindred. He took his nephew, Lot, with him.with him which had adverse repercussions afterwards. There was afterwards strife between their herdsmen, which resulted in Lot moving into Sodom. While there, though vexed by their wicked behaviour, he remained silent until the attempted assault on the angels took place. Hauled out of Sodom, with his wife and two daughters, presumably the two he was willing to throw to the Sodomite wolves. His wife looked back longingly towards Sodom and was destroyed. His two daughters, who were obviously affected by the sinful climate in Sodom, had an incestuous relationship with him, which resulted in two nations who were afterwards thorns in the nation of Israel's side. The lesson to be learned from this account is that one act of disobedience can have far reaching consequences.
