Ruth: Beautiful Redemption

The book of Ruth is like an oasis in the desert. After story upon story of grim narrative, treachery, and tragedy (e.g., the bulk of Numbers through Judges), Ruth paints a picture of beautiful redemption. Not only does Ruth tell the story of how a Gentile women became a part of the people of God, but it also shows how that same woman became a part of the linage of King David (4:18-22), and David's greater son, our Lord Jesus Christ (Matt. 1:5). All of this is made possible by God's providential care through the loving-kindness of Ruth's kinsmen redeemer, Boaz. The book of Ruth is a picture of faith and beautiful redemption, and it is a welcome break from the treachery and tragedy that surrounds it on all sides.
