A Committed Mother

83

Many today make commitments that are 'pie crust' promises-- easily made and easily broken. They have all kinds of excuses as to why they do not follow through on what they promised. They want commitments that cost them nothing. But Hannah understood what true commitment entails. Commitments are binding. God holds us responsible for fulfilling our end of the bargain. And even though Hannah had every reason in the world to renege on her commitment, she follows through. She understands that commitments are costly and she willingly paid the cost. She chose to give her son, Samuel, to the Lord's service. How could she do this? She could because she had a deeper commitment-- a commitment of her life to God. Her example encourages us to follow through on the commitments we've made and to commit ourselves to God as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to Him.
