Corinthian Contentions

282

Imagine your left foot had a conflict with your right hand, and they refused to cooperate with each other. When it was time to put on your left sock, or tie your left shoe lace, your right hand refused to take part. When your right hand helped to push a shopping cart, your left foot would play dead, and you would have to drag it around the grocery store. How effective do you think your body would be? The Apostle Paul learned that there were contentions in the church of Corinth. Instead of each member of the body following the directions of the head (which is the way the body is supposed to work), members were choosing sides. In this passage, the Apostle Paul begins to address one of the situations in the church of Corinth that prompted this letter. Great dishonor has come to the name of Christ because professing Christians have been so quick to form factions, and have refused to deal with their disputes God's way.
