A Significant Imperative

21

The Lord's Supper is one of the hallmarks of what defines and portrays a true Church, with her
observable markings dipped in Jesus' blood. So, apart from 'pure doctrine and an exercise of church
discipline, sacraments of "baptism and the Lord's Table" are evident distinctives of true ecclesiology.
Though poignantly blurred by many organizations that call themselves "the church". Therefore, in
proving our undivided loyalty to Christ and His Word, the imperative "do this in remembrance of me" – I
Cor. 11v23 – 26 c.f. Lk. 22v19 – 20, must not be trifled with. Hence, in observing the dictates of the
imperative, significantly sets apart the gathered Church, it intrinsically identifies and confirms the
Church's Union with Christ – "in life and in death". And ultimately, the Lord's supper as a definitive
display of Christ's atoning. He said this is –"My body Lk. 20v19– and My blood – Lk. 22v20". The Lord's
table, is a reminder of the need for sanctification – I Cor. 11v27 – 32. And in the practice of observing
imperative, the gathered Church affirm and reaffirms her commitment to upholding the gospel and
rehearsing the gospel until He come – v26.
