Three Dark Lies About the Light

Last week we saw that the false teachers were peddling a message called Gnosticism based on the idea of knowledge. The idea of Gnosticism defaced the NT portrait of Jesus. It defied the authority of scripture. It denigrated the seriousness of sin. And the threat of this Gnosticism soon drove the aging apostle John to pick up his pen and begin to fight back. This morning we are going to see how the Gospel confronts and corrects three big lies about God and man and darkness and light. Lie #1: You don’t have to live a faithful life. Lie #2: You don’t really have a sinful nature. Lie #3: You don’t sin – at all!
