Wrath of God

Romans 1.28-32

I. The wrath of God

1. The truth of God's existence is known. Even the Gentiles were not ignorant of the true God. (1.19).

2. The disclosure of divine attributes in the created universe renders man knowledgeable and, therefore, inexcusable. (1.20).

3. Changing the glory of God into the image of the creature is an abomination. (1.21-23).

II. The wretchedness of man

1. The Gentiles had given up on the true God and so he gave up on them. The evidence was unmistakeable. (1.24). We must be saved or perish.

2. The Gentiles proudly replaced the truth by their own false inventions. (1.25).

3. It comes as no surprise that the holy God should give 'them up unto vile affections' (vv. 26-27) and give 'them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient' (1.28).

III. The sufficiency of Christ

A. The evidence of judgement to come. Paul affirms (1.32).

B. The escape from judgement to come. We must not forget that Paul's overall theme is salvation. (Romans 1.1-2).

Conclusion

During my converted life-time there has been a clamor outside and inside the church to tone down on sin. What have we gained by it? Nothing, as far as I can see. Our nation has sunk lower in the depravity of sin.
