Christ's Sabbath Rest

Why did Christ die on a Friday, the day of preparation for the Jewish Sabbath? Why did He then remain in the grave throughout the Jewish Sabbath and rise on the first day of the week? These things are not accidental. God does nothing randomly, or by accident. Everything is purposeful. The purpose is because of the Sabbath itself. God has done two great works that surpass all His other works: the work of creation and the work of redemption. After the work of creation, which He chose to do over six days, He rested on the seventh day. After the great work of redemption was finished, the Son of God rested. We must now come to Christ for our Sabbath rest and take His gentle yoke.
