Do We 'Know' God?

291 ( 146 | 145 )

One of Job's friends asked the question, "Can you by searching, find out God?" Can we know God? In one sense, "No, we can't." "How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways". Yet, in another sense, "Yes! We can. And in fact, we must!" "Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God."

But this knowledge is not gained by searching, and not gained through intellect or worldly wisdom and reason. It is given! And the wonderful truth of the gospel is that God longs for us to know him. This is his delight, and so much so that he sent his Son to demonstrate his love for us and to reveal his true self to us. There is much we can learn and know about God, but in his grace. He sent his Son, he gave the Spirit, that we might actually know him and all that he has freely given us. Such knowledge is indeed too wonderful for us, too lofty for us to attain. But "we have the mind of Christ!"
