On the Emmaus Road

Embed

We read in Acts 1:1 - 3 "The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God." One of these "infallible proofs" is found in the passage we are going to study. This is one of the many appearances of the Lord Jesus on the day that He rose from the dead.

As we come upon the scene, it is late in the day on the First Day of the week. It is the first Resurrection Sunday and two very confused disciples are walking home to Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem. As they are walking and talking, an amazing thing happened to them.
