Saul: Seance or Resurrection?
Series Bible Characters
Saul consults a medium on the night before his death. As with many other Old Testament passages regarding life after death, this text leaves us with more questions than answers.
This is not the case with the New Testament: because Jesus Christ really died and really rose again, we are left with a clear understanding of what lies beyond the grave. He brought life and immortality to light in the gospel (2 Timothy 1:10), forever dispelling the darkness that sometimes shrouded Old Testament saints.
When believers die, their souls immediately go to be with the Lord in heaven, and their bodies are placed in the grave, waiting for their own bodily resurrection when soul and body will be reunited forever at the return of Christ.
If we are alive when the Lord Jesus returns, our mortal bodies will be clothed with immortality, and we will then be caught up to meet the Lord in the air.
