David's adultery with Bathsheba

366

"But the thing which David had done displeased the Lord".

This chapter records the tarnish upon David's testimony.

His adultery with Bathsheba and the subsequent planning of her husband's death is recorded in scripture, not as a licence for us to commit the same sins, nor is it recorded for us to sit in judgment upon David, for he that thinketh he standeth take heed, lest he fall.

Rather it is written as a warning to us of the very grave possibility of falling into sin's snare, and the consequences of doing so.

Here we have a solemn exhortation to guard against temptation and seek to avoid sin with all our hearts.
