Rebuilding Christian Civilization-The School

And with this subject, I embody the fool who goes where only angels fear to tread. This subject is a sacred cow for Christians today. Christians will more easily agree with the need to rebuild the family and the Church then they will agree with the need to rebuild Education. I think that is due to how deeply schooling as embedded itself into our way of life. When one touches the Schools one is touching Mom, Apple pie, and Baseball.
There is little ability to consider the subject dispassionately. This is likely because the overwhelming percentage of us ourselves attended Government schools and so to say that something is amiss there is to say that something is amiss with us. Similarly, an overwhelming percentage of Christians send or sent their children to Gov schools and so to critique the Gov schools sounds like a critique of the people who sent their children to Government schools. Likewise, a large number of Christians themselves are teachers, or school board members, or bus drivers, or volunteers for the Government schools. So … to critique Government schools is to suggest that all these people are doing something wrong.
But to not saying anything about Government schools when they are in the condition they are in is to bring one under the condemnation of Scripture when Jesus teaches,
5 And whoever welcomes a little child like this in My name welcomes Me. 6 But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. 7 Woe to the world for the causes of sin. These stumbling blocks must come, but woe to the man through whom they come.
