Introduction

1. The first concern of a true penitent (vv1-2)
   a) Mercy
   b) Pardon
   c) Cleansing (vv2,7,10)

2. The confession of a true penitent (vv3-5)
   a) Sin (vv3-4)

   • acknowledges it is sin
     • transgression : going outside the boundaries
     • sin : missing the mark deliberately, breaking God’s law
     • evil : bad, the opposite of all that is good
   • acknowledges the sin is his
   • acknowledges he has sinned against God
     b) Sinfulness (v5)

3. The longings and faith of the true penitent (vv7-19)
