Romans 14:1-15:7, Lesson 19

243 ( 105 | 138 )

Whatever we do, we are to do it for the glory of God. There may be times when we have freedom of conscience to do something. This freedom is dependent upon two conditions. First, it must not be forbidden in God’s Word. And secondly, that our actions do not cause others to sin. However, if we do not have freedom of conscience to do something, we should not do it. We are not supposed to by mastered by anything except Jesus Christ. We are to guard against the tyranny of the weaker brother. Those whose conscience is weak should not be allowed to have all the rules revolve around them. We are not to look down on people who have different convictions than we do, especially if their convictions do not contradict God’s commands. Unity and unison are not the same. We do not all have to have the same convictions in order to have unity within the body of Christ. If we have been accepted by Christ, then we should accept others as well. Our goal should be being conformed to the body of Christ. There are various laws in the Old Testament such as civil, dietary, ceremonial, and moral. We can learn from all of these laws. It is important to note however that the moral laws are those which still apply to us today. We must love one another.
