The Gospel, Not Politics, Changes Hearts

Why was John arrested? Because he spoke the truth to power and meddled in the affairs of Herod. He didn't mind his own business and follow politically correct protocol. When he was arrested, Jesus did not storm the prison and free him. He went to Galilee and preached the gospel of God. Why? Because that is what he was sent to do and because preaching the gospel is far more effective than political maneuvering. The gospel alone changes hearts when the Spirit makes it effectual. Today we live in a time when everyone wants to use the political machinery to change America. In reality, America needs the gospel more than ever. We need changed hearts, not changed external circumstances.
