Christ the Anchor of Our Souls

The apostle here proposes Abraham as a pattern because he was the father of the Hebrews and spiritually of all true believers. They were interested in God's promises made to him; they knew they had a right to the same blessings as Abraham. This was a man who was remarkable for his faith and his patience in God's purposes. The promise of God was annexed to his character in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.
