God's Oath

The hope we have as an anchor of the soul is that God gave us his oath on two unchangeable things. God did not have to swear, but to men "...an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife." God gave an oath concerning the seed of Abraham, and also that would be another high priest "after the order of Melchisidec," which pointed to Jesus Christ. God did this because He was "willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel" that we might have "strong consolation."
