Divorcing Marriage From Government

203 ( 189 | 14 )

On the first half of the program today, I will speak with Thomas Kidd from WORLD Magazine re: some of the buzz surrounding the selection of the new Pope.

Thomas is an associate professor of history at Baylor University and a senior fellow at Baylor's Institute for Studies of Religion. His most recent book is Patrick Henry: First Among Patriots

On the second half of the program, I will speak with Nelson Kloosterman - Executive Director of Worldview Resources International re: a recent post, which he concluded by saying: 'In short: we cannot talk about “the common good” without defining “the good,” and we cannot define “the good” apart from metaphysics—which is to say: we cannot define “the common good” apart from theology, and without reference to God'.

As a result of a strong anti-government sentiment right now among many Christians (and I can understand why) there is a renewed interest in Libertarian views. Most recently, I have heard some Christians saying 'the government has no business being involved with marriage'. My question is, is that really the Christian view? If so, how do we then interpet Romans 13:4 'For he (the ruler) is the minister of God to thee for good'

Nelson Kloosterman will help us think through the subject of Politics as Theology in Practice.
