Saved? Saved From What?

We are grateful for another opportunity to come to the Lord's Table. As we prepare our hearts to come to the Supper, I want to open up a theme in which we will see God's glorious salvation for His people. The most important question a human being can ask is this: “What must I do to be saved?” That is, “How can I get into heaven when I die?” However, when we talk to unbelievers about their need to be saved, they often respond by saying, “Saved? Saved From What?” Moreover, even many Christians are actually confused about what it is they have been saved from. This sermon has basically one point, and it is my attempt to answer the question “Saved From What?” Although there are many secondary answers to that question, the most important answer is simply this: “First and foremost, the sinner must be saved from God Himself!” Once we get that, everything else will fall into place quite naturally. But if we miss this, then our view of Christian salvation will always be distorted, deformed, and not God honoring. As we come to the Lord's Supper, let us reflect deeply upon what it is that we are saved from, and why it cost God so much to actually save us.
