Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews
Series Easter Messages
189
The words which were fastened to the cross by Pilate were the fulfilment of Scripture. Pilate risked considerable opposition from the Jews in insisting that it was left as it was. He had previously inquired carefully about the Lord's credentials as a king. All the words that were written are significant. He is Jesus, the Saviour, coming to save His people from their sins. He came from Nazareth, showing His humble origins and humanity. He was a king, and rightly so being the son of God Himself and therefore invested with all the dignity of deity. He was sovereign over the Jews although they rejected Him. He can yet be King over those who repent and believe.
