The Ministry of the Spirit

The Ministry of the Spirit (Jn 16:5-15)
Intro: Why is it 'to your advantage that I go away'”
Would you rather have Jesus or the Holy Spirit here today?

1. Who is the Spirit? What are we to understand by 'Spirit'” Answer: Power.
   We understand our relationship to the Father & the Son, both intellectually & emotionally from those names. But w/the Holy Spirit, the situation is very different.

Is 31:3, The Egyptians are men & not God, & their horses are flesh & not spirit.
Mic 3:8, I am filled with power--with the Spirit of the LORD
Acts 1:8, You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.

2. The Spirit is our Counselor (Jn 16:7b-11)
   Jn 14:16, And I will pray the Father, & He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.
   Ez 36:26-27, I will give you a new heart & put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh & give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you & cause you to walk in My statutes
   Lk 11:13, How much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!

3. The Spirit is our Teacher (Jn 16:12-15)
   Jn 14:26, But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things.
   1 Cor 2:12, Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

Conclusion: 'The Holy Spirit has a monopoly on Mr. Moody.'
