Are You Sure You Really Know God?
Series The Mystery of Godliness
In the sermon for today I want to preach upon the most urgent theme in the world. It is expressed in the title of the sermon, “Are You Sure You Really Know God?” I begin this sermon with my own story about preaching on this theme in the first sermon I preached in the first church I planted – now over thirty years ago. But this great theme about God Himself, and knowing Him personally, has fixed itself permanently in my mind and heart. In this sermon I develop the theme from a negative perspective, giving four assertions about what knowing God definitely is not. And then I turn to the positive perspective, giving four assertions about what knowing God definitely is. Although the sermon has implicit application throughout, I make it emphatically explicit in the conclusion. It is my intention to convey to the unbeliever that he is missing out on true life in the present, and will never inherit the kingdom of God in the future. So, Almighty God is there, and He is not silent. He is there, and He can be known – but only on His terms. May the Lord help us to hear His word preached; to receive it into our hearts; and to apply it with spiritual wisdom!
