They Lie Down in Shame

The offer to return to the LORD was given to Israel and with supplication and confession they made their cry unto the LORD. Jeremiah gave his offer to Israel yet their devotion had not been to the LORD but to idols therefore did they lie down in shame. We must conclude that idolatry is not only a deception but a shame unto all who practice it. The very first claim of such devotion and shame was given by the Evil One in the Garden of the LORD. Adam and Eve gave in to the the promise of the Serpent that they too could become gods thus did idolatry in the first family lead to Shame and they hid themselves from the presence of the the LORD God. From that time of temptation and sin much shame has come upon mankind. Adam and Eve found it necessary to cover themselves because of the deception of their godhood. Idolatry is a deception for the idol is no true God but wood, stone, gold, silver, materialism, pride, the world, the flesh and the devil, all of which lead one to "lie down in shame".
