Oswald Chambers said this: "Prayer is not a preparation for work, it is work. Prayer is not a preparation for the battle, it is the battle."

Through the teachings of Jesus in this text, as He tells us how to pray and how not to pray, our prayer should be that the Holy Spirit do a supernatural work in our hearts that we may understand WHAT prayer is, what prayer IS NOT, HOW prayer operates in our lives, and WHY it is so important.

In this introduction to the study of prayer, we'll examine first, what prayer is not through the two examples that our Lord Jesus gives: The Hypocrites & the Heathens (or the Pretenders & the Pagans).

We discover that often prayer is used as a means of idolatry as we pray likewise as the hypocrites, or as the heathens.
