Two Gates, Two Ways, Two Groups, and Two Destinations
32
Jesus has been contrasting choices through the Sermon on the Mount: two kinds of righteousness, two treasures, two masters. If we were to go on a little further in this chapter we would see a contrast made between: two trees, two ways to call upon the Lord, two builders who build on two different foundations. In our verses, 13-14, there exists a series of contrasts. Four pairs of contrasts in fact. In each pair the contrasts are absolute: two gates,
two ways or roads, two groups of fellow travelers, and two destinations. Where are you?
