Festus the Fickle: Contra Prosperity Gospel

Festus's fickle behaviour means that justice is, yet again, denied to the Apostle Paul, leading him to rebuke Festus and invoke his right to be heard before Caesar in Rome.

There isn't much detail included in this brief trial. But it points us to the reality that the prosperity gospel doesn't work. Even the mild forms of prosperity theology, that suggests that a spiritually mature person can expect good things will happen as a result of their obedience, is defeated by our understanding of what is happening to Paul.

In this sermon, we consider how the prosperity gospel actually poisons those who believe it and ends in ashes. Because God's promises of glory and peace and rest are for the age to come.
