Trying to kill a god

In Lystra, the people first think that Paul and Barnabas are gods, since they have healed a man who was born as a cripple. But, when the Jews arrive, they convince the people to stone Paul to death. How can they switch so quickly from worshipping Paul to killing him? It betrays the sin and the idolatry that is deeply rooted in their hearts. Could it be that we also have deep-rooted idolatry in our hearts?
