Government: A Fearful Master

Have you ever heard of Murphy’s Law? Most of us have. The shortened version goes like this: “If anything can go wrong, it will.” But Murphy’s Law is actually a subset of another law we observe anecdotally called the Law of Unintended Consequences.

Based upon the notion that things often do not work out as originally planned or intended, the Law of Unintended Consequences is nowhere better exemplified than in the case of civil government.

God created civil government for our good—largely to protect our lives, our liberty, and our property. But fallen men and women populate all governments, and history shows that when they exceed their legitimate authority the inevitable outcome is something to be feared. Dr. D.
