Boast in the Cross of Christ

These verses are the beginning of John's unique record of the crucifixion. For the next few weeks, we will be hovering on the doctrine of the cross. Each Sunday we will be giving a deeper and deeper explanation of Gal 6:14, where the apostle Paul said, "But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world." What is Paul saying? He is pointing to the most invigorating, confidence inducing, happiness producing force in the world. And, why don't we have it? We boast in the wrong things. In these verses, John shows us the things that do satisfy, that do invigorate, that do stabilize and make one happy. Therefore, the outline below is framed in the form of commands to boast in seven things.
