Western economies are described as consumerist, and they are built on the purchase and consumption of goods and services. Christians have often been critical of this economic model, and its associated expansionism. But from where does consumerism gain its power? What forces lie behind it? Do the Scriptures have anything to say on the matter? And is there a gospel alternative?
