Open mouthed and big-hearted v11.
The Apostle here manifests his true and genuine affection - we ought to be free of heart and willing to heal and pass over all estrangements; we should express genuine affection to the honour of Christ.

The location of the problem v12.
The care needed to promote and maintain warm affections - a close walk with the Lord needful - our attitude to the truth affects our relationships with others.

The need of affection in return v13.
The Apostles' affection a reflection of Christ's, Psalm 109:4.

Coolness and compromise.
The connection between v13 and 14 - cool affections towards the brethren and familiarity with the world - who we want to be with is a good indicator of where we are with the Lord.
