Jewish Background of the Scriptures

Romans 1:16 says, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."

What does this mean "to the Jew first?" And why is it that many Jewish people have resisted the very Gospel of their Messiah? Did you know there is a Jewish background to the Scriptures that you read daily?

John Metzger joined Crosstalk to shed light on these questions. He also shared a brief background of how he came to have an interest in Jewish people.

John is a Missionary Educator with Ariel Ministries. Ariel Ministries was established in 1977 by Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum and is dedicated to spreading the Gospel of Messiah to Jewish people and equipping Jewish and Gentile believers in the faith.
