The special guest in this presentation is Christian apologist & philosopher Douglas Groothuis, Ph.D (website: http://www.IVPRESS.COM/GROOTHUIS/DOUG). Dr. Groothuis was a campus pastor for twelve years prior to obtaining a position as an associate professor of philosophy of religion and ethics at Denver Seminary in 1993. He was educated at the University of Wisconsin--Madison and obtained his Ph.D at the University of Oregon. He is currently Professor of Philosophy at Denver Seminary, is a member of the Society of Christian Philosophers, Evangelical Philosophical Society, and the Evangelical Theological Society & has authored eleven books. Some of his books are "Unmasking the New Age" and "Confronting the New Age" which analyze New Age spirituality, his "Revealing the New Age Jesus" refutes New Age claims that Jesus spent his adolescent years studying among Hindu and Buddhist teachers in India and Tibet while his book, "Truth Decay" deals with cultural shifts associated with postmodern philosophy. This presentation focuses on Doug's book "Deceived by the Light," a critique of Betty Eadie's book, "Embraced by the Light" & her claims about the phenomena of near-death experiences and the afterlife. Betty Eadie, a New Age Mormon, claims that she went to Heaven and talked personally with Jesus, and He assured her that there are many paths to God.
