Salvation Humanly Impossible
Series A Survey of Biblical Salvation
We saw last week that the reason we need a Savior is because God is offended by our sin and we are rightly exposed to the holy wrath of the One who made us for himself. Apart from sovereign grace, we really are (in the words of Jonathan Edwards)"sinners in the hands of an angry God." Total depravity necessarily leads us to confess total inability. But we don't want to believe that. Most people see sin as a hindrance, a disability, a sickness, but surely not a lifeless inability to do spiritual good. That's why it's important to turn to this passage today. Mark 10 is familiar ground because it's important ground. It's the sacred ground that separates biblical Christianity from every false religion. Here Jesus himself screws down the lid on the coffin of free will in response to the question from his disciples. Salvation is humanly impossible, but "all things are possible with God."
