46 - Confronting False Teachers

399

In Colossians 1:28, Paul tells us that dealing with doctrinal deviancy is a hallmark of authentic Biblical preaching. In Romans, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, and Titus, Paul shows us that the responsibility for delivering a warning against error belongs not to the church leadership alone. It is a responsibility of all believers.

How many believers, and how many of our churches, practice this today? Very few, it seems. We live in a time of growing spiritual cowardice.

The fact is that many churches are condoning false teachers in their midst. It seems they would rather offend our holy God than risk having someone in the church take offense -- someone who does serious harm to the flock of God, or the followers of such a person. Many would rather put up with the stench than face the responsibility to deliver a warning, and to put such people to shame in the hope that they will repent. Many would rather have false peace than put a man out of a pulpit. Many would rather sit idly by than leave a church or denomination that refuses to follow the Bible's clear commands to confront false teachers and root them out.

God's Word commands us to deal decisively with false teachers, and leaves no doubt about how we are to do it. That's our focus on this week's edition of The Scripture-Driven Church broadcast.
