Commentary on the Westminster Confession of Faith 2 of 12, Truth's Victory Over Error

1,866

One of the best, if not the best, commentaries on the Westminster Confession of Faith.

Dickson was well equipped for this work, being a contemporary of the great Westminster Assembly; he also worked on the Directory for Public Worship with Calderwood and Henderson and on The Sum of Saving Knowledge with Durham.

Charles Spurgeon also commented, 'Dickson is a writer after our own heart, for preachers he is a great ally' (Treasury of the Scottish Covenant, p. 314).

The original title of this book was, 'Truth's Victory Over Error: The True Principles of the Christian Religion, Stated and Vindicated against the following Heresies, viz., Arians, Arminians, Anabaptists, Antinomians, Brownists, Donatists, Epicurians, Eutychians, Erastians, Familists, Jesuits, Independents, Libertines, Manicheans, Pelagians, Papists, Quakers, Socinians, Sabellians, Sceptics, Vaninians, etc. The whole being a Commentary on all the Chapters of the (Westminster – RB) Confession of Faith, by way of Question and Answer: In which, the saving Truths of our holy Religion are confirmed and established; & the dangerous Errors and Opinions of its Adversaries detected and confuted... '

Also contains, 'A short Account of the Author's Life, by the late Mr. Robert Wodrow.'

The WCF '...may be safely termed the most perfect statement of Systematic Theology ever framed by the Christian Church,' (Hetherington, History of the Westminster Assembly of Divines, p. 345).

This book is on the Puritan Hard Drive http://ow.ly/dZ3ua

"If you want to understand Reformed theology the Puritan Hard Drive is unsurpassed, outside the Bible itself." - Pastor Greg Price (Covenanter Author) http://ow.ly/gAu3F
