Here we are taken to the very heart of the account of the deliverance of God's people, in that they are brought out of their slavery by the power of a sacrifice which the Lord himself has supplied. The Passover was to become a perpetual memorial in Israel, teaching them about the nature of God's relationship to them, as well as prophetically prefiguring the coming of Messiah. When Jesus met with the disciples to observe the Passover meal on the night of his betrayal, he transformed the event, since the fulfilment of its prophetic meaning was now present in his own person and work. Christ our Passsover has indeed been sacrificed
