Jesus Proved to be More than a Prophet by His Resurrection

The Disciples on the road to Emmaus thought that Christ's death destroyed any chance that He would be the Messiah Who would redeem Israel.

In their sorrow, they could only describe Him as a great prophet, and yet, the pent up feelings of their heart overflowed when they blurted out that they had hoped He would have been the One to Redeem Israel.

The Risen Lord called their attention to the prophets, how He should suffer first and then be glorified. Through the teaching of the Word, the Disciples came to understand who the Savior really was - a Prince and a Redeemer who laid down his life as a sacrifice to save His people from their sin.

Only then did they again recognize Him by sight - His resurrection proved all His claims. What joy they felt to know their Redeemer was alive forevermore!
