Check Up On Your First Love

196

The church at Ephesus had been in existence about 40 years when Christ sent this message to them. It had been established to be a light revealing Christ in the midst of a community living in spiritual darkness characterized by great idolatry, immorality, and superstitions. The believers had done well and were commended by Christ for those things. However, His evaluation rebuked them for having lost their first love for Him. With the condemnation He called for them to remember who He is and what He had done for the, to repent, and to do their deeds as they had done when they individually were first saved and corporately when the church first began. Today believers individually and corporately in each local body of Christ must continue to consider the evaluations Christ gave the churches for encouragement to those being faithful, to strengthen the weary, and humbly confront the weaknesses not becoming complacent or satisfied with a lesser relative status quo that is irrelevant. The standard every church will be held accountable to is that of the Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church.
