God's Promised Spirit Sent Forth

God fulfills His promise to send the Holy Spirit with power for Christ's church to be His witnesses to earth's end.
As you read these two passages, perhaps you are wondering, what do the events of Pentecost and Babel have to do with each other? The simple answer is that at Pentecost, God reverses the effect at Babel. At Babel, God confused the languages, which removed understanding, so that the people would scatter and stop building the tower. At Pentecost, God granted the ability of language unto understanding, so that they might hear about the mighty acts of God and thus be united as a people in Christ's church. Secondly, while there is often a focus on the gift of tongues, specifically, whether this gift is still present today, the Acts 2 passages seems to be focused not on the gift of tongues (the medium), but on the message, which is the mighty acts of God, culminating with the life, death, resurrection, and exaltation of Jesus Christ our Lord (Acts 2:33-36).
