III THE HOLY SPIRIT (SPIRIT OF CHRIST) WAS SENT TO APPLY THIS PLAN IN MEN'S HEARTS.

And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!"

3. The Holy Spirit as Restorer God--The Holy Spirit's participation in salvation is one of regeneration and applying the work of Christ.

The Holy Spirit applies the finished work of Christ by applying the righteousness needed. (John 16:5–11)

1. Without the Spirit of Christ, we are not even aware that we are in danger.
2. Without the Spirit of Christ, we are grieved by the realization of our separation.
3. With the Spirit of Christ, a definite advantage is given to the believer.

a. This Helper is sent from Christ Himself.
b. This Helper convicts the lost to their need of righteousness.
i. The need is righteousness not found naturally in a person
ii. The solution is the imputation of righteousness
iii. The necessary consequence is eternal judgment
